North Ossetia

Pre-Islamic cemetery in the village (aul) of Dargavs in the Karmadon Gorge. Local people call it “the city of the dead”.

Each family used to have its own tomb.

The Ossetians still worship the “city of the dead”.

Remains of a family battle tower in the Fiagdon river gorge.

Stalin is said to have been an Ossetian. His statues can be seen in many Ossetian towns.
